Many schools take field trips to zoos and aquariums to teach their students about zoology. However, not all wildlife can survive within the limited space that zoos and aquariums offer. This includes a great white shark.

Although some animal facilities may feature a great white shark, it is usually only temporarily. In fact, when these creatures were first featured in aquariums, they longest they lasted was a mere 16 days! So, why exactly do they die so quickly? Well, according to an 1984 captivity report by Steinhart, ‘these captive sharks were merely in the process of dying, with some taking longer than others

There have been numerous attempts to bring great whites into aquariums, but it wasn’t until the Monterey Bay proved in 2004 that it was virtually impossible to keep the sharks alive. Many people have tried endless different methods of retrieving a great white shark from the ocean, but none of them seemed to do the trick.

So what exactly could they do? Considering that an adult great white shark is typically 15 feet in length, they managed to capture a younger great white that was merely a year old and a few inches above 4 feet. This transportation was successful, but why have there been so few of these successes?
